on the other hand, she also finds amusement in dressing up for herself. she knows, looks are superficial, it all fades. but growing up in poverty never allowed for her to try it out, so why not look lavish now?

poverty was something she soon grew accustomed to. hyesun was raised by a single mother and older brother in los angeles, california- with most of her childhood being a complete blur. memories of her mother consisted of her being bedridden. perhaps it was because she never felt there, or present at all really, that her passing didn't affect her then.
soon came the incredibly cramped apartment with her insufferable aunt and uncle. the size wasn't what bothered her the most- it was their three toddlers. with her brother being only seventeen at the time, there was little hope of leaving anytime soon. he became distant for a while, and hyesun became defiant, taking any excuse to leave the apartment.
for a while, she had no ambitions. then... it came to her.
racing. so that's what he'd been up to. this new hobby of his had suddenly been earning him more money. ever since she'd caught him sneaking out the first time, she insisted on joining him.
she wasn't sure what intrigued her most about it. the competition, the atmosphere, the people? maybe just the thrill of it all. she was diligent and determined in learning exactly how it all worked.
